Median Island Beautification Project Completed on Rampart

The City of Las Vegas celebrated Wednesday the completion of a $100,000 median island beautification project on Rampart Boulevard at Del Webb Boulevard.

The work included rock-scaping, boulder placement and installation of metal sculptures. City of Las Vegas employee and welder Michael Dunn created the 24 metal sculptures of cacti and other plants that are featured on the six islands. The cumulative length of the islands is nearly 1.5 miles, and the total surface area improved is just more than 100,000 square feet. Approximately 700 tons of landscape rock and 165 boulders weighing a total of 42 tons were installed.

Funding came from unallocated 1-percent room tax receipts. All work, except boulder placement, was completed by city of Las Vegas Department of Operations and Maintenance staff.
