LAS VEGAS -- A suspect was shot and killed after police say he invaded a home near South Cimarron Road and Alta Drive. The other suspect is on the run.

The shooting occurred Wednesday night shortly after 11:30 p.m. at a home on the 8000 block of Cactus Flower Court.

Police say two men kicked in the front door of the home and and one of them was shot multiple times by someone inside the home. Police say the two suspects were armed and shot at the homeowner first.

Neighbors say the alleged home invasion is concerning.

"It makes me feel unsafe but I definitely would protect myself in this type of situation," Jesus Avila, a neighbor.

Bob Irwin, the owner of The Gun Store, says the biggest reason people get handguns is to protect their home. He says it is lawful to shoot someone if they are breaking into your home and you are in danger.

"Just crashing through the door without a gun visible, without a mask, is sufficient for the homeowner to reasonably believe that he's in danger of being killed or seriously injured," Irwin said.

Emergency crews transported the suspect to University Medical Center where he later died. No one inside the home suffered injuries.

The shooting is under investigation.
