Shadow Ridge H.S. student accused in shooting

LAS VEGAS -- 8 News NOW has learned that a teen from Shadow Ridge High School is accused of opening fire at a home in the northwest.

Police said the suspect, identified by law enforcement sources as 14-year-old Ayden McKinnon, walked up to the home near Grand Teton Drive and Jones Boulevard just after 4 p.m. Tuesday with a gun in hand an the intent to hurt the people inside.

So far, there is no word on who exactly McKinnon was targeting when he fired a round at the door, but shortly after he did someone inside returned fire, hitting McKinnon.

He was transported to the University Medical Center with gunshot wounds. Even students at Shadow Ridge who didn't know the suspect personally are shocked to hear of what happened.

“The first thing I thought was how close it would have been that he would bring a gun to school and shoot so many people the fact that he went after a family surprised me even more," senior Arianna Bicknel said.

"It blows my mind something like that should never have had happened and for it to happen is just crazy," junior Gage Henderson said.

According to Metro, no one else was hurt and this case is still under investigation. No word on the exact charges the teenager could face.
