Local law enforecement and school district officials will remember a fallen officer at a ceremony Friday.

Clark County Sheriff Doug Gillespie and other law enforcement officials will take parrt in the annual Marc Kahre Honor Day celebration at Marc Kahre Elementary School, 7887 West Gowan Road.

Parents and families are invited to attend the featured event of the day, the annual parade of officers that will begin at 8:30 a.m. on Kahre Field. School personnel will be available to guide those in attendance to the proper location for the event.

Kahre was a 15-year veteran of the Metro Police Department who was killed in the line of duty on October 11, 1988. In recognition of his service to the community, the school annually hosts a day of educational events. Students will have the opportunity to see demonstrations by the K-9 unit and hear from a variety of guest speakers.

Here is a list of the activities taking place during the day:

  • 8:10 a.m. - Procession Music - Kahre Honor Choir
  • 8:30 a.m. - Law enforcement parade
  • 8:45 a.m. - Welcome by Principal Mikie Young
  • 8:55 a.m. - Pledge of Allegiance by Student Council President Harlan Nichols
  • 9:00 a.m. - Performance by Kahre Honor Choir
  • 9:10 a.m. - Guest speaker Mayor Pro Tem Stavros Anthony
  • 9:20 a.m. - Guest speaker Doug Gillespie
  • 9:25 a.m. - Distinguished officer awards
  • 9:40 a.m. - K-9 Kickers
  • 9:45 a.m. - K-9 demonstrations
  • 9:55 a.m. - Closing remarks
