Police Sent Letters to Possible Costco Shooting Witnesses

LAS VEGAS -- Las Vegas police detectives are reaching out to shoppers of the Summerlin Costco where 38-year-old Erik Scott was shot and killed by police. Letters have been sent to more than 100 shoppers who may have witnessed the officer involved shooting.

Metro says Scott pointed a pistol at police outside the store and eyewitnesses backed up that story up. But soon, other shoppers came forward with a different version of events, saying Scott was no threat at all.

Police have mailed or faxed more than 100 letters to shoppers whose membership cards were scanned at the Costco on July 10, around the time of the incident.

Scott was shot seven times by three officers.

The letter from Metro's homicide unit urges the customers to cooperate in the investigation if they witnessed anything important before, during, or after the deadly shooting.

Charges Recommended Against Two Metro Officers

LAS VEGAS -- Two Las Vegas police officers could face charges in a high speed chase that cost a man his life.

On May 19, Metro Police Officers Andrew Ubbens and Aron Carpenter were chasing Ivan Carrillo, a man believed to be driving under the influence. The officers began the chase with their police lights and sirens on. According to documents, the officers' sergeant told them to stop the pursuit, but the officers continued without their lights and sirens.

According to the arrest warrants, Ubbens announced he was going to perform what's called a PIT maneuver to stop Carrillo's car. During a PIT maneuver, officers use their own vehicles to stop a suspect vehicle.

Police Radio Recordings Reveal Chaos of Costco Shooting

LAS VEGAS -- We are now getting our first listen to what police officers encountered in July's shooting outside a Summerlin Costco. Three officers shot Eric Scott seven times after they say he pulled out a concealed handgun.

Las Vegas police's radio traffic from that day reveal what officers heard minutes before they fatally shot Eric Scott outside the front entrance to Costco.

Over the radio, you can hear the officer make the shot's fired call and then ask for medical units. The officer then says, "He pulled a 413 and pointed it at my direction." That "413" the officer refers to is police code for a firearm.

Inquest into Costco Shooting Postponed

LAS VEGAS -- The Clark County Coroner says they have postponed the inquest into an officer involved shooting at a Summerlin Costco.

Erik Scott was killed by Las Vegas police as he left the Costco on July 10. The inquest was originally scheduled for September 3, but has been postponed indefinitely.

The decision to postpone the inquest was made after the Clark County District Attorney's Office requested more time to gather information about the case. Postponing an inquest is rare, but not unheard of.

According to District Attorney David Roger, his office asked for the delay for several reasons. Roger says his office has not received the reports and witness statements from Metro Police. Once the DA's office gets that information, attorney's will need to time to review it. He says there could be 100 to 200 witnesses.
