Man Accused of Trying to Light His Wife on Fire

A Las Vegas man is facing attempted murder charges after his wife accused him of trying to set her and their house on fire.

According to police, 40-year-old Christian Ellis and his wife, Melissa, got into a fight Monday evening at their home near Cimarron Road and Grand Teton Drive. It was actually their son who first called police about the incident.

During the fight, Ellis grabbed a can of gasoline and a blowtorch from the garage, police said. He then dosed the house and his wife with gasoline, threatening to burn them both.

At one point, he actually activated a lighter and attempted to light his wife on fire, according to police.

Melissa Ellis was able to grab the couple's son and leave the house. She contacted a neighbor, who called police.

When officers arrived, Ellis barricaded himself in the house for a short time, but he was eventually taken into custody.

He is now facing attempted murder and arson charges because he tried to light his wife on fire.
