Suspect escapes custody after Las Vegas hospital releases him

LAS VEGAS (KLAS)-- Nye County sheriff's deputies were searching Friday for 35-year-old Larry Avila after they said he was mistakenly released from a hospital in Las Vegas without notifying them.

Avila is described as being 5 feet 4 inches fall and 165 lbs. with brown hair and brown eyes.

Last Saturday, deputies said they were in a pursuit with a motorcycle rider, believed to be Avila, that ended in the area of Oyster and Basin.

Avila was injured in the case, deputies said. He was identified later to have several nationwide warrants out of the 5th Judicial District Court for offenses regarding theft, stolen property and narcotics, the sheriff's office said.

Avila was transported to the hospital after he sustained injuries. The hospital was supposed to notify the NCSO when he was medically cleared to be booked into jail, deputies said.

Istead, Avila was released from the hospital in Las Vegas without NCSO being notified.

An unknown woman picked him up. Avila is now on the run.
