A hardworking high school senior drove away a new car Tuesday in the Clark County School District's Drive for Excellence award program.

Each year, CCSD recognizes seniors with zero unexcused or unverified absences and a 3.7 GPA or above.

The grand prize winner is drawn from the pool of outstanding students and can choose either a new car or a $10,000 scholarship.

This year's winner was Cristina Granados from Northwest Technical and Career Academy. She can choose a Scion xB, Honda Fit, Volkswagen Golf, Toyota Yaris or Nissan Versa, courtesy of Desert Automotive Group.

More than 600 students from around southern Nevada were part of the awards ceremony at the Orleans Hotel and Casino. Though the car is the grand prize, other students received scholarships, laptops, cameras and gift certificates for their hard work.
