Storm drain project starts Monday

Work on a new storm drain in the northwest part of the Las Vegas gets underway Monday.

Crews will be installing one mile of storm drains under Fort Apache Road between Elkhorn Road and the northern beltway.

Work hours will be from 7 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. The first portion or the work will be a section along the beltway. When that is finished, one side of Fort Apache Road will be closed one block at a time, diverting all traffic to the other side with one lane open in each direction.

The entire project is expected to take a year to finish. However, when it is done, work on a storm drain on Elkhorn Road from Fort Apache Road to Grand Canyon Drive will start.

The projects will direct flood waters underneath roadways instead of it filling up streets during monsoon season.
