New Section of Lone Mountain Opens Thursday | Transportation
A community in the far northwest part of the valley will celebrate a new thoroughfare for its neighborhood Thursday afternoon.
The opening of a section of Lone Mountain Road to the public will be hailed at 4 p.m. Thursday. The ceremonies will take place at the corner of Lone Mountain Road and Shasta Blue Street.
The area along Cliff Shadows Parkway includes several neighborhoods, but the only access in or out of the area came from Cheyenne Avenue or Alexander Road. Lone Mountain Road offered a third means of entrance and egress from the community, but between 215 and Cliff Shadows Lone Mountain was a private Bureau of Land Management (BLM) haul route.
The city worked with the BLM and road improvements on Lone Mountain began in late January 2012. The construction improvements consisted of site grading, drainage improvements, installation of embankment and barrier rail safety structures, signage and striping, traffic signal upgrades at the 215-Lone Mountain intersection, and removal and replacement of approximately a half-mile of roadway.
The project cost $711,000 and the contractor was Las Vegas Paving. The design consultant was Slater-Hannifin Group, and design and construction was administered by the city of Las Vegas.
