Open Houses Slated for Red Rock Canyon

The Bureau of Land Management, Red Rock/Sloan Field Office will be holding open houses the third Thursday of each month. The open houses will be held to give the public an opportunity to meet staff, get information about projects and planning, and ask questions about the management of Red Rock and Sloan Canyon National Conservation Areas and Walking Box Ranch.

The first open house will be held Thursday. Open houses will run from 2 p.m. to 7 p.m. at the Red Rock Canyon Visitor Center. When participants enter the fee booth at the entrance of the Scenic Drive, they should tell the attendant that they are attending the open house and fees will be waived.

Free snowshoe hikes offered at Mt. Charleston

Free snowshoe hikes offered at Mt. Charleston

Free snowshoe hikes at Mt. Charleston are being offered through the Spring Mountains National Recreation Area (SMRNA) Education Department until the end of March.

A naturalist will outfit hikers with snowshoes and lead them on a one-hour hike of about a mile on a trail rated easy to moderate. Hikers experience the snow while discovering how the plants and animals survive the cold. Recent participants viewed animal tracks in the snow on the mountain.

"It's pretty active out there," said Jennifer Falkof with SMRNA. "If the naturalist sees something she can show you, she certainly will."

Snowshoes are one size fits all and it is recommended hikers be at least 6 years old.  For safety reasons, no dogs are allowed on hikes.

Participants should wear clothing that protects their heads, hands and feet from snow, cold, and wind. These interpretive walks are provided for individuals, families and groups every Saturday and Sunday at 9 a.m.

Spring Fling at Spring Mountain Ranch

Spring Mountain Ranch Homeowner Master Association, a 1620 single family home  community, is on their 5th year of holding their Annual Spring Fling Easter Egg Hunt.  The HOA Board looks to continue building a stronger community amongst the residents of the HOA with this activity.  This year they are excited to continue the community building beyond their walls with the second year of a Can Food Drive.  As well they are very excited to have the City of Las Vegas Neighborhood Services to have an anti graffiti banner signing for the children.
