The grand opening of phase two of the Raptor Play Park in the Thunderbird Family Sports Complex will be celebrated at 10 a.m. Saturday, Feb. 16.

The 10-acre sports complex is located at 6105 N. Durango Drive, at the northwest corner of Tropical Parkway and Durango. Some light refreshments will be available.

The F-22 Raptor is the centerpiece of the park, appearing to fly above a monument plaza with contrail-shaped curved steel beams anchored in a concrete base providing support. The Raptor was selected due to its use in the 57th Wing at Nellis Air Force Base. The Thunderbird Family Sports Complex pays tribute to the United States Air Force and all military families in the  valley.

A new phase of the Clark County Shooting Complex is set to open next week.

A 30-station, 75-acre sporting clays course will open to the public Friday, January 18. The course offers a panoramic view of the Las Vegas valley.

Sporting clays is often called "golf with guns" because people ride through the course in golf carts. It is a form of clay pigeon shooting that is designed to mimic the shooting of live birds.

This course was designed by a world-renowned clays course designer. Each station includes three different shooting positions colored coded for difficulty, which means there are actually 90 positions to shoot from at this course.

Free Ski Helmet Program Launches Saturday

The Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort and Centennial Hills Hospital are working together to better protect kids.

They’re launching the 7th annual Lids for Kids safety campaign Saturday at the ski resort. The program provides free helmets for kids to use when they’re skiing, snowboarding or sledding.

According to a report by the U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission, wearing a helmet can prevent or reduce the severity of 53 percent of head injuries for kids under 15 years old.

The kickoff will be from 9:30 to 11 a.m. Besides a free helmet for toddlers through pre-teens, kids will also receive an education in ski and snowboard safety. A lift pass is required.
