Ski Resort Wins Safety Award

Ski Resort Wins Safety Award

The Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort is being honored for its efforts to get young skiers to wear helmets.

The National Ski Areas Association is giving the ski resort a National Ski Area Safety award for the Best Helmet Safety Program for its Lids on Kids program. The program has been around for five years. It is a month-long safety campaign that starts in January. The resort partnered with Centennial Hills Hospital to provide free helmets to kids. Since the program started, the LVSSR has handed out more than 1,000 free helmets to kids.

Besides the free helmets, the kids and their parents took a class on ski and snowboard safety. Parents were shown how to properly fit and use a helmet. The program will be continued next ski season.
