New Garside Pool Begins Construction Next Week | Public Spaces
Groundbreaking for a new community pool will take place at 8:30 a.m. Tuesday near Garside Junior High School.
The new pool will be situated between the school’s basketball and tennis courts. It is set to replace the original Garside Pool, built in 1971. The new pool should be open in June 2014.
“I have looked forward to beginning construction on this new pool for Ward 1 residents for such a long time,” Las Vegas Councilwoman Lois Tarkanian said in a statement. “Now the time has finally arrived. By next summer, there should be a wonderful new pool for families to enjoy, at last.”
The new aquatic facility will feature a zero-depth play area with play structures and slide; a heated, four-lane lap pool with a one-meter diving board; two 19-foot-high water slides; locker rooms, showers, landscaping, an entry plaza and a shark bike rack. The entry plaza will include a splash pad water feature.
The new facility will be located on 1.4 acres that formerly was Clark County School District property, recently exchanged in a land swap with the district for basketball courts at Craigin Park, adjacent to Hyde Park Middle School. The new pool will accommodate 600 people.
The pool project has an $8.1 million budget, funded by previous park bonds and the city of Las Vegas general fund.
