A nationwide contest to earn money for community park improvements could net a local soccer complex as much as $100,000.

The Bettye Wilson Soccer Complex is headquarters for theMayor’s Cup soccer tournaments, held each year in October and February, drawing thousands of soccer players and their families from around the world. The 58-acre park offers 10 soccer fields, as well as a playground and open space.

Only one park will receive the title of "America's Favorite Park," but grants will be given to three parks that receive the most votes by the end of the contest. Grants will be awarded in the following amounts: first place $100,000, second place $50,000, and third place $25,000. A fourth park will be selected at random from the remaining parks in the top 25 to win a $15,000 grant. Winning parks will be announced publicly in August 2012. These grants are made possible by the Coca-Cola Live Positively initiative.

Competition is heated among parks across the country, with several already having more than a million votes. Voting ends at 9 p.m. PDT July 15.
