Cowboy Christmas and Car Show Planned for Saturday

 

Las Vegas City Councilman Steven Ross is hosting a holiday event for families at Floyd Lamb Park at Tule Springs this weekend.

The Ward 6 Cowboy Christmas and Classic Car Show will be from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m. Saturday. There will be hay rides, a petting zoo, arts and crafts, games, jump houses and food vendors. Kids can also count on a visit from Santa Claus.

The car show will feature cars decorated for the holiday season. Choirs from area schools will show off their talents.

The event will also be home to a canned food drive and Toys for Tots toy drive. Guests are being asked to bring a new, unwrapped toy and non-perishable food item. Admission to the event is free.

"Dolphin Tale" Swims Through Centennial Hills

 

The next free Friday movie in Centennial Hills will be “Dolphin Tale.”

People are invited to bring blankets or folding chairs for a free movie in the park at 7:30 p.m. July 20 at the Centennial Hills Park Amphitheatre, located at 7101 N. Buffalo Drive.

The PG-rated family movie “Dolphin Tale” begins at dusk and is sponsored by Smoothie King. Refreshments, including smoothies and snacks, will be available for purchase from Smoothie King.

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada Offer Dozens of Day Camps

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada has a multitude of programming available this summer for girls 5 to 17 years old. From day camps to single day programs, girls can discover fun and friendships to last a lifetime.

It’s your summer, love it!

Girl Scouts of Southern Nevada is offering special anniversary pricing on Camp Foxtail registration as a celebration of 100 years of Girl Scouting. Save $100 on resident summer camp with session prices ranging from $50 to $295.

Camp Foxtail is located in the cool in the cool Spring Mountain Range, just 45 minutes from Las Vegas.

Summer sessions run through August 17 and a 10-day pre-registration is required.  Registration is available at girlscoutsnv.org.

YMCA Offers Summer Passes and Day Camps for Kids

The YMCA is again offering its Sizzlin’ Summer Pass and Y Day Camps.  

The pass is $112 for individuals and $215 for the family. It gives people access to all the pools, wellness centers and classes offered at the four YMCAs around southern Nevada. The passes are on sale now through July 31. They’ll allow for four months of access from the date of purchase. The outdoor pools are already open. People who are not members can still go to the pools for $5 per person per day.

Day camps start June 11 for kids 5 to 15 years old. Camp choices include cooking, science, zoology, rock climbing, glamour girls, sports, cheer and many more. The camps are from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. Monday through Friday. To accommodate more schedules, the Y offers free care for campers from 7 a.m. to 6 p.m. Camp prices start at $136. There is also a daily drop-in rate of $46. Financial assistance is available. No child will be turned away because of an inability to pay.

Anthony, Youngsters to Plant Arbor Day Tree in Majestic Park

 

Las Vegas Councilman Stavros Anthony will join first- and second-grade classes from Eileen Conners Elementary School to plant a shoestring acacia tree at 10 a.m. Wednesday, May 9, in Majestic Park in honor of Arbor Day.

The children also will bury a time capsule with the tree. Majestic Park is located at 3997 Hualapai Way. The tree will be planted near the Hualapai/Alexander Road entrance. 

Laura Eisenberg, a community forester with the Nevada Division of Forestry, will present the city with a Tree City USA flag, marking the 20th year Las Vegas has earned this recognition from the National Arbor Day Foundation because of its program to care for community trees.
