Tivoli Village Opens This Week

LAS VEGAS -- After years of anticipation, we are now just days away from the grand opening of Tivoli Village. The shopping center is set to open Thursday.

But during tough economic times, some wonder how a brand new shopping center can survive, especially just feet away the popular Boca Park shopping area.

Tivoli Village was originally supposed to open in the fall of 2009. Then it got pushed back to March of 2011. Now everyone is excited for it to open on Thursday.

Part of the excitement over the development is the unique architectural aspect that owners believe gives them a distinct advantage. That's why the developer and the tenants aren't worried about opening retail shops and restaurants right across the street from retail shops and restaurants at Boca Park.

Also, tenants feel there really isn't this type of luxury available to locals off the Las Vegas Strip.

"The delays didn't bother us. We wanted to make sure that this project was perfect. We've worked really hard to make sure that our space was perfect and we would expect the same for the rest of the space," said Danny White, manager of Jeff White Custom Jewelry.

You might think business owners would be worried about opening high-end businesses in the middle of construction. After having to wait so long, they all said they're happy with the delays because it gave them more time to plan.

They also said all the construction just means more excitement over the shops that will open in the future.

"I think it's a place that people will come and meander around -- just something to do -- and window shop. It's definitely going to be a center for this area of town," said Jillian Plaster, owner of the Dog House.

Only phase one of the project will be opening Thursday. That includes 30 to 40 shops and restaurants. The rest of Tivoli Village will open in 2012.
