LAS VEGAS -- A brazen burglar was captured on surveillance video allegedly breaking into a home in the northwestern part of the valley. The video shows a man armed with a gun illegally entering a home near Cheyenne Avenue and Rancho Drive.

Metro Police said while burglaries are slightly down from this time last year, property crimes in the northwest are up 5 percent. Detectives said they are inundated with burglary calls and so far this year there have been nearly 14,000 incidents.

8 News NOW spoke with the family who captured a clear picture of the alleged burglar. Shari Brantley said she realized right away that something wasn't right when she returned to her home Tuesday.

“It was definitely heart-wrenching and then just coming in and seeing it was awful,” Brantley said. “I don't know if there are any other words other than anger and just feeling violated that somebody is in your space,” she said.

Brantley said three guns, an iPad and other belongings were stolen from the home.

The Brantleys run a home security business so they're hoping their surveillance shots of the suspect will help officers catch the accused burglar before anyone else is affected.

“He's got a huge revolver on him. It's just a matter of time before he hurts someone or he gets hurt himself,” Mark Brantley said.

The Brantleys said they never expected this to happen to them, but they're not going to just take it. The couple is putting up a fight by sharing the photos and videos on social media.

The picture of the accused suspect has been shared on Facebook more than 6,000 times.

Metro Police seemed confident the suspect will be caught thanks to the Brantley's security cameras.
