One Dead, 5 Injured in Ambulance Rollover

LAS VEGAS -- The intersection of Decatur Boulevard and Craig Road reopened Tuesday evening after the crash of an ambulance and pickup truck.

Six people were transported to a hospital, including the 63-year-old female patient in the ambulance who died after the crash.

The woman was in critical condition and being transported to MountainView Hospital when the crash happened, North Las Vegas spokesman Cedric Williams said.

According to police, the MedicWest ambulance was traveling west on Craig through the intersection at Decatur with its lights and siren on when a truck heading south on Decatur entered the intersection on a green light.

The pickup hit the side of the ambulance, causing it to roll over on its side.

Two North Las Vegas firefighters and two MedicWest employees were also in the ambulance. Williams said that immediately following the crash, the two firefighters pulled the patient from the ambulance and began working on her.

It is unknown whether the woman died as a result of the collision.

The sixth person involved in the crash was the driver of the pickup truck. That woman was transported to University Medical Center with minor injuries.

The intersection of Decatur and Craig was closed for several hours.
