Crews Begin Marathon Construction Near Rainbow Curve
News

LAS VEGAS - A major road project near the Rainbow Curve is sure to cause major delays and headaches this weekend.

The construction marathon started early Friday evening near U.S. 95 and Rainbow Boulevard. The project is expected to last this weekend and next weekend.

Nevada Department of Transportation has closed a portion of Rainbow Boulevard and is detouring U.S. 95 traffic in order to install overhead girders on the Summerlin HOV flyover bridge. Drivers who use that bridge know it is currently under construction.

Access to U.S. 95 between Jones Boulevard and Lake Mead Boulevard is off limits this weekend. If you're driving along U.S. 95 north, you will be forced to get off at Rainbow Boulevard, drive about a block, then return back on to the highway.

Drivers headed south on U.S. 95 will get off at Rainbow, follow a detour, then hop back on the freeway.

Drivers can expect delays well before the detours. In some areas, traffic will be reduced to one lane leading to the construction and slowed to 15 miles per hour for as many as four miles.

This weekend's closure will last until 5 a.m. February 6. Round two of the construction closure begins February 10.
