Metro Searching for Missing Hiker in Red Rock Area
News

LAS VEGAS  -- Family members, friends and a police search-and-rescue team are looking for an overdue hiker in the Red Rock Canyon National Conservation Area west of Las Vegas.

Las Vegas police say that foul play is not suspected.

The hiker, 46-year-old Ronald Kirk, was last seen on Jan. 16. Family reported that he text-messaged them Sunday that he was going hiking in Las Vegas. Kirk is an avid outdoorsman and frequents recreational sites in the Las Vegas valley.

His vehicle was later found in the rugged Calico Basin area about 15 miles west of Las Vegas, but searchers on foot and in helicopters didn't find him Monday or Tuesday morning.

Meltzer says the air search has been suspended, but the ground search continues.

Anyone with information on Ronald Kirk's whereabouts is asked to contact Metro's Missing Persons Detail at (702)828-2907/(702)828-3111.
