Lights to Brighten Local Dog Park

Dogs can look forward to partying after dark at the Barkin' Basin.

Las Vegas City Councilman Stavros Anthony invites residents to bring their dogs to a community celebration as he turns on new lights to brighten up the dog runs in the Barkin' Basin dog park at 7351 W. Alexander Road (at Tenaya Way) on Friday, Aug. 26, at 7:30 p.m. Refreshments (for humans and dogs) and doggy bandanas will be available while supplies last.

“I invite you to bring your dog and join me for a celebration in this great dog park,” said Mayor Pro Tem Anthony. “With the lighting improvements that have been made, dogs and dog owners will be able to better enjoy playing and exercising in the park after dark.”

Opened in June 2005, Barkin’ Basin is the city’s only park dedicated to sole use by dogs and dog owners. The dog park comprises 7.75 acres and has three dog runs, drinking fountains and six shaded structures.

Funding for the $30,000 lighting improvements was made possible through the Residential Construction Tax that is collected through development of homes in the area. Monies from the Residential Construction Tax must be spent in the ward in which they were generated, and must fund neighborhood parks and recreation projects.
