Mayor's Race Down to Goodman, Giunchigliani

LAS VEGAS  -- Las Vegas voters are facing a choice between the city's first lady and a county lawmaker in a June election to replace flamboyant but term-limited Las Vegas Mayor Oscar Goodman.

Goodman's wife, Carolyn Goodman, topped 18 candidates in Tuesday's low-turnout municipal primary.

She drew just over 37 percent of the vote, well short of the 50 percent needed to win the election outright.

Clark County Commissioner Chris Giunchigliani squeaked past county commission colleague and former city council member, Larry Brown, by just 15 votes to advance to the June 7 runoff. Brown hasn't said if he'll seek a recount.

Giunchigliani is a former schoolteacher and state assemblywoman. She says Sin City needs a serious leader. Carolyn Goodman is promising to finish what her husband started.
