BLM Open House on Potential Red Rock-Area Trail

A new multiuse trail near Red Rock Canyon will be the subject of an open house hosted Wednesday afternoon by the Bureau of Land Management.

The open house will be part of an environmental assessment (EA) that analyzes the construction of a multiuse trail from the 13-Mile Scenic Drive entrance paralleling State Route 159 until it connects to the Scenic Drive Exit parking lot.

The open house will be held from noon to 7 p.m. with short overview presentations at 2 and 6 p.m. After the presentations, attendees are invited to offer comment on the EA including specific feedback on the trail alignment, surface design and trailheads.

When people enter the fee booth at the entrance of the 13-Mile Scenic Drive, they should tell the attendant they are participating in the open house and fees will be waived.

A decision on the trail's impact is expected in early 2012. The BLM would then begin the process of looking for funding sources to construct the trail.
