Students Plant Trees to Mark Arbor Day

Las Vegas Councilman Steve Wolfson and Fertitta Middle School students participated Thursday in an Arbor Day Foundation tree planting ceremony at All American Park, located at Buffalo Drive and Oakey Boulevard.

The ceremony was held to coincide with Arbor Day, which is a nationally-celebrated observance that encourages tree planting and care, marked on the last Friday in April. The city was also recognized for being a Tree City USA for 19 years because of its program to care for community trees.

Wolfson was joined by Mark Blankensop, regional forester from the Nevada Division of Forestry; Victoria Fertitta Middle School Principal Lisa Campbell; and students from the middle school for the ceremony. The students and guests planted five trees at the park during the ceremony. The students took part in an afternoon of fun activities afterward.
