A special run between Las Vegas and Carson City is underway. It is a 450-mile trek in remembrance of law enforcement officers who have made the ultimate sacrifice.

The 13th annual Nevada Law Enforcement Officers Memorial Run started Thursday morning from Police Memorial Park. There are 120 segments to the run, which is one for every law enforcement officer killed in the line of duty in Nevada. Runners are carrying a baton with the officers’ names on them. This year, three new names have been added to the list.

"With this year's run we cherish the memory and celebrate the service of three brother officers that made the supreme sacrifice," Assistant Clark County Sheriff Joseph Lombardo said.

The runners will follow U.S. 95 and U.S. 95A to Yerington.  They will then take Highway 208 to U.S. 395 and proceed north to Carson City. The run culminates May 3 at the Nevada Law Enforcement Officers' Memorial in Carson City. At the end of the run, the batons will be presented to the families of the officers who have lost their lives.
