6 arrested in connection with carjacking, home invasion crime spree in northwest valley

Carjackings, home invasions are just some of the 14-16 crimes that have occurred in the northeast in just a matter of weeks. On Wednesday, a group of six people were arrested in connection with the crime spree.

8 News NOW was the first to shine a light on the dangers car and homeowners faced in the northwest valley in a story about 22-year-old Dilon Hess.

Hess, along with five others will face a long list of charges.

"This is truly one of the worst crime sprees we've seen in a long time," said Captian Sasha Larkin, Metro Police Northwest Command.

A 74-year-old man was opening his garage door when the suspects approached him, put a gun to his face, tied him up and took jewelry and firearms from his home.

When officers arrested the group, some of them fought apprehension.

"Two of these suspects, when they were taken into custody decided they would ram patrol cars and criminal apprehension team cars before being taken into custody, Captain Larkin said.

According to Captain Larkin, they didn't want to go because they knew they had a string of crimes they were going to be held accountable for.

"Northwest officers were able to identify six stolen vehicles that this crew is responsible for, five of which have been recovered," said Captain Larkin. "The one vehicle still outstanding is a silver Honda Sonata baring Arizona plates.

Neighbor input and cameras helped officers track down the suspects.

"Furthermore something that was just essential in solving this crime were cameras that neighbors had in their home and outside that caught these suspects walking up and down the street and into the elderly gentleman's home," Larkin said.

Metro Police highly encourages residents to get cameras and
get connected to the Las Vegas Safe Cam program. The information from the Safe Cam program is used to put criminals away.
