Police: Man dies after jumping out of car in southwest valley, intersection closed

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A man is dead after apparently jumping out of a moving car, according to Las Vegas police.

Thursday, Sept. 17 at approximately 12:48 a.m., LVMPD dispatch received a call of an injured person in the eastbound travel lanes on W. Russell Road west of S. Buffalo Drive.

According to police, evidence at the scene and witness statements indicated a 2017 Toyota Tacoma was traveling eastbound Russell Road approaching Buffalo Drive when the left rear passenger of the vehicle opened the vehicle door and exited the vehicle while it was still in motion impacting the
roadway surface sustaining substantial injuries.

The passenger was transported by arriving medical personnel to UMC trauma where despite medical intervention, he succumbed to his injuries and was pronounced deceased by
hospital personnel.

The Toyota, driver, and front passenger remained at the scene and cooperated with the
investigation.

The driver of the Toyota displayed signs of impairment, failed Standardized Field Sobriety Tests and was arrested for DUI.

The passenger’s death marks the 69th traffic-related fatality in the LVMPD’s jurisdiction for the year 2020.

This collision remains under investigation by the LVMD’s Collision Investigation Section.
