Metro investigates 2 separate barricade situations in northwest and southeast Las Vegas

Metro Police investigated two barricade situations Wednesday night. One incident happened in the northwest near W. Deer Springs Way and N. Durango Drive.

According to officers, an attempted murder suspect is barricaded inside a home refusing to surrender to police.

At this time, the LVMPD SWAT Team is en route to the area to assist officers. Residents in the area were evacuated from their homes and roads have been closed to drivers.

The other barricade situation happened in the southeast in the 3000 block of South Nellis Boulevard near N. Nellis Boulevard and E. Vegas Valley Drive. Metro said this incident started as a domestic disturbance, but now the suspect has barricaded himself inside an apartment and is refusing to leave.

SWAT has been called in to assist. No other information was released.

Program gives extra training to teachers to improve under-performing schools

Local community groups are working together to help improve under-performing schools in the Clark County School District, and they're turning to teachers to get it done.

The program is called Lead Nevada Academy, and it will provide leadership skills for teachers who have demonstrated success in the classroom. The goal of the program is to take the success and expand its reach beyond classroom walls.

More than 18,000 teachers work for the Clark County School District.

"My senior year teachers, they actually helped me out a lot," said Justice Santiago, a student. "I'm about to graduate, so they're really trying to push us to graduate."

At least 2 people critically injured in crash at Durango and Elkhorn

At least two people suffered critical injuries resulting from a crash at the intersection of Durango Drive and Elkhorn Road, according to Metro police.

Eight vehicles were involved in the collision which happened around 6:48 a.m. on Wednesday, said police.

According to Metro's Fatal Detail Unit, a delivery van struck a Honda Accord. The Accord was then hit on all four sides from four different directions.

The driver of the Accord and the delivery van were transported to the hospital. The driver of the Accord is in critical condition, said police.

Investigators are now working to determine if drugs, alcohol or a medical episode were factors in the crash.

Metro plans to have the intersection closed for several hours while officers investigate the crash. Motorists are being advised to find an alternate route.

Substitute teacher, assistant coach at Legacy High arrested for sexual acts with student

An employee of Legacy High School was arrested for having inappropriate contact with a student, police said.

According to officers, 29-year-old Ryan Davis is charged with two counts of sex act with a pupil between the ages of 16 and 17. Davis was arrested Wednesday by the Clark County School Police.

Davis and his wife were in the news earlier this week when his second daughter was the first Las Vegas valley baby to be born in a hospital on New Year's day.

Since his arrest, Davis has been relieved of all duties.

According to the Clark County School District, Davis was hired in May 2014 as a substitute teacher at Legacy High. He was also an assistant football coach.

Metro Police were called to the scene around 9:30 p.m. near Durango Drive and Gowan Road.

Police bust possible marijuana grow house, arrest 5

Metro police responding to a call of shots fired in a northwest Las Vegas neighborhood ended up discovering a house they believe is being used as a marijuana grow operation, police said.

Police received the call around 9:47 p.m. Monday and responded to the home in the 8500 block of Copper Knoll Avenue near Durango Drive and Gowan Road.

Five people were taken into custody, police said.
