Skiers have until Saturday to get a deal on season passes for the Las Vegas Ski & Snowboard Resort.

People can save up to 55 percent off the prices charged during the season for passes.

Events, Closures and Fire Restrictions for Spring Mountains

With the high heat in the Las Vegas valley, many people will be tempted to escape the temperatures by heading into the mountains.

The Forest Service has several alerts it wants to make people aware of, before they go.

This weekend is the service's official kickoff to summer. The Spring Mountains National Recreation Area will host fun activities, outdoor demonstrations and workshops on native plants and animals.

The event will be held Saturday at the Las Vegas Ski and Snowboard Resort from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m.

Besides the event, there are some closures people should know about. Deer Creek Highway, otherwise known as Highway 159, will be closed to through traffic June 11 and 12 for construction. The road to Hilltop Campground and Deer Creek Picnic Area will be open.

Old Mill, Foxtail, and Kyle Canyon Picnic Areas are currently closed for construction. Also, Mahogany Grove, McWilliams, Kyle Canyon and Dolomite Campgrounds are closed.

New Shake Shop Holding Hiring Fair Thursday

A new shake shop in the northwest valley will hold a hiring fair with a twist Thursday afternoon.

For Goodness Shake wants candidates with “big personalities” to work in its store selling milkshakes, smoothies and shaved ice. The fair runs from noon to 3 p.m. at 4220 S. Grand Canyon Dr., Suite 8.

According to the company, each milkshake and smoothie purchased will result in a donation to Three Square Food Bank; along with the big personalities.

Candidates are encouraged to show personal style and character in their dress. The company is hiring all positions, including management, and candidates should bring a copy of their resume.

Man Accused of Killing Woman Appears in Court

LAS VEGAS -- The man accused of beating and shooting an elderly woman made his initial appearance in Las Vegas Justice Court Wednesday morning. He appeared via video conferencing.

Bayzle Morgan, 21, is facing charges of murder, kidnapping, robbery and burglary in the May 21 death of 75-year-old Jean Main. Police say blood samples found in Main's home matched Morgan's DNA.

The second suspect, Keith Smith, 46, is facing burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary charges. He appeared in court on Tuesday. According to the arrest report, Smith stayed outside the home and was the getaway car driver.

 

 

Motorcyclist in Critical Condition After Wreck

LAS VEGAS -- A motorcyclist suffered severe head trauma after a crash at Fort Apache Road and Saddle Avenue Tuesday evening, Metro Police said.

The motorcyclist was taken to University Medical Center in extremely critical condition, the police said.

A car was also involved in the wreck, but no injuries were reported from that vehicle.

Southbound lanes of Fort Apache have been closed as police officers investigate the crash.

Photos Released of Suspects in 75-Year-Old's Killing

LAS VEGAS -- The photos of two suspects facing charges related to the killing of a 75-year-old woman were released by Metro Police Tuesday.

Bayzle Morgan, 21, is facing murder, kidnapping, robbery and burglary charges in the death of Jean Main. She was found in her home on Green Pasture Avenue on May 21. Main had been beaten and shot.

Keith Smith, 46, is facing burglary and conspiracy to commit burglary charges.

Police say the men wanted to commit a robbery and targeted the home which was located in a gated community.

According to the arrest report, Smith waited outside the home in a getaway vehicle and Morgan entered the home from the backyard.

Police say blood samples in the home matched Morgan's DNA.
