Family killed in murder-suicide remembered

Friday night marks 48 hours since a murder-suicide left a family of five dead. A candlelight vigil took place near Lake Mead Boulevard and Jones Boulevard Friday night.

"I wish everything would just stop. I wish people would just stop doing stuff, but I know that's not going to happen," said a classmate of one of the victims.

Students and teachers alike mourned the loss of three children and their parents after a murder-suicide this week.

Teacher Shanelle Garbutt calls the gathering Friday night a celebration of life.

"AJ is a very special kid. He's very special to my heart," she said. "In honor of him, we're going to release these balloons."

The deaths occurred at two scenes Wednesday night. Police say Jason Dej-Oudom killed his wife near a Walgreens at Lake Mead and Jones and his children at their nearby home at Torrey Pines Drive and Lake Mead. Police say he killed himself after committing the heinous crimes... Read More

Severe weather, flash flooding expected in valley area on Thursday

The National Weather Service has issued a severe thunderstorm warning and flash flood warning for western Clark County.

The severe thunderstorm warning is expected to be in effect until 1:30 p.m. The flash flood warning for northwestern Clark County is in effect until 3:30 p.m.

According to the NWS, the Doppler radar indicated a severe thunderstorm capable of producing quarter-size hail and damaging winds more than 60 mph. The radar also indicated thunderstorms producing heavy rain across the north facing slopes of the Spring Mountains.

This storm was also located in Red Rock Canyon. It's moving northeast at 5 mph. Another severe storm was located on Kyle Canyon Road near Mt. Charleston.

The National Weather Service says over one inch of rain has already fallen in some locations, and it's quickly approaching two inches in some spots... Read More

Metro: Woman found shot dead in parking lot

Metro Police investigated a woman's death Wednesday night.

According to Metro, the woman's body was found outside a business near Lake Mead Boulevard and Jones Boulevard. Officers said she was found dead in a parking lot from an apparent gunshot wound.

Police are also investigating a second scene near Torrey Pines Drive and Lake Mead that they say is related to the homicide location.

I-Team: 2 northwest homes busted for drugs

Two alleged drug houses were busted within 24 hours on the same block in the northwest valley.

Police say an odor emanating from one of the homes prompted Wednesday's raid. Officers detected the odor while they busted another nearby home Tuesday night.

"It smelled kind of like a skunk, so I wasn't sure if it was a dead body or what was going on at that house," said neighbor Mark Brennan.

Police say the smell came from a marijuana grow house.

Brennan says he noticed police clearing the home on Joe Michael Way near Rainbow Boulevard and Gowan Road Wednesday.

Sara Dealba lives across the street.

"I had no idea," she said. "You would get the random smell of pot, but you know, you never know who's smoking around here."

Police tell the I-Team they discovered a stolen sports bike, equipment used to grow marijuana and approximately 35 plants, including one with an estimated value of $5,000 to $10,000... Read More

Driver facing hit-run charges in l as Vegas crash that hurt kids

Bail was set at $250,000 for a 50-year-old Las Vegas man charged with leaving the scene of a crash that police say came after his car ran a red light, hit another car, spun onto a sidewalk and struck five pedestrians.

A judge on Tuesday set a June 27 preliminary hearing for Diego Morales-Aquino, who remains jailed on felony hit-and-run charges that could get him decades in prison if he's convicted.

Police say a 9-year-old boy has two broken legs and a collapsed lung, and a 6-year-old girl received a fractured spine and severe internal injuries in the Saturday evening crash in northwest Las Vegas.

A 7-year-old boy and two women, ages 64 and 39, were also struck on the sidewalk, but police say they received less serious injuries.

2 kids badly hurt, driver facing felony DUI charge in Las Vegas

Police in Las Vegas say two children remain hospitalized and a driver is jailed on felony hit-and-run charges after a two-car crash sent a vehicle onto a sidewalk where it struck five people.

Officer Michael Rodriguez said Monday a 6-year-old girl and a 9-year-old boy were taken to University Medical Center in critical condition after the crash about 7 p.m. Saturday at Jones and Lake Mead boulevards.

Police say 50-year-old Diego Morales-Aquino left the scene driving a Honda Accord, but was arrested a short time later.

A 7-year-old boy and two adult women, ages 64 and 39, were also hit on the sidewalk. Police say they were treated for less serious injuries.

A 19-year-old driver of a Nissan Altima and his 18-year-old passenger were also treated for minor injuries... Read More
