NV Energy files proposal with PUCN to grandfather in private rooftop solar customers

NV Energy filed with the Public Utilities Commission of Nevada (PUCN) a proposal Wednesday to grandfather-in eligible private rooftop solar customers.

In its filing, NV Energy requests that customers who had installed a private system prior to December 31, 2015, remain on the previously approved net metering rates for 20 years. Gas being restored to 3,000 homes impacted by gas fire

Southwest Gas began the process of restoring gas Wednesday morning to customers impacted by Tuesday afternoon's gas fire.

A neighborhood near Anasazi Drive and N. Hualapai Way was evacuated after a backhoe hit a natural gas line causing it to leak and catch fire.

Fire crews allowed the fire to burn out and gas to the area was shut off. Customers have been without gas since then.

Southwest Gas crews did work until late into the evening to repair the gas line.

Starting at 8:45 a.m., technicians began visiting impacted homes to restore natural gas.

A person at least 18 must be at home for the technician to do a re-light. Southwest Gas says their technicians will be wearing uniforms and have proper identification. They will make several attempts to restore service... Read More

Body of 73-year-old man reported missing found in Las Vegas park

Las Vegas police say the body of a 73-year-old man who had been reported missing was found in a park not far from his home.

Harold Shields had been reported missing Monday, and police on Tuesday issued a plea for help finding him.

They said he lived near Charleston Boulevard and Cimarron Road.

Officials say his body was found Wednesday in All American Park. That's off Buffalo Drive south of Charleston Boulevard.

The Clark County coroner says the cause of his death wasn't immediately determined.

Police haven't released details about how he was found, but say foul play doesn't appear to be a factor... Read More

Keeping your neighborhood safe

Homicides are up by nearly 70 percent across the Las Vegas valley, and violent crime overall is up by nearly 20 percent when you compare the numbers this year to last year.

In addition to homicides, sexual assaults, robberies, and assault and batteries are also trending higher. But that's not all.

The Las Metropolitan Police Department saw an increase of calls for squatters in all area commands last year except for the northwest which had a nearly 11 percent reduction.

Body found in desert near northwest neighborhood

A body with an apparent gunshot wound was found in a desert area in northwest Las Vegas Wednesday morning, Metro Police said.

The body was found around 10:40 a.m. near a construction area at Cliff Shadows Parkway and Peaceful Dawn Avenue.

Family, police seek leads on Sunday murder

Police are working to find out why a grandmother of four was gunned down on her porch late Sunday night in the northwest valley.

The shooting happened at approximately 10:30 p.m. near Fort Apache Road and Ann Road.

According to Metro Police, the suspect(s) fired shots from a newer, dark-colored, two-door car in front of the home of 47-year-old LaDonna Metais.

She was sitting on her porch, along with two others, when she was struck. Emergency responders rushed her to University Medical Center, where she later died.

Her daughter Jackie Frank is pleading for anyone to come forward with information.

"I hope they find who did it to my mom," she said. "She wasn't just my mom, you know; she was the grandmother to my children. She was a sister. I have my two aunts and my uncle, and it's just crazy."

Metro investigates fatal drowning near Torrey Pines, Smoke Ranch

Metro Police investigated a fatal drowning in the northwest part of the valley Monday night.

According to reports, a juvenile girl was submerged underwater at a home located at 2529 Monte Carlo Dr. near S. Torrey Pines and Smoke Ranch Road.

It happened around 7:10 p.m. The girl was taken to Mountain View Hospital where she was pronounced dead.

There wasn't any other information released.
