DUI suspect accused of killing teen driver appears in court

The man accused of causing a car crash that left a 16-year-old boy dead made his first appearance in a Las Vegas court Monday morning.

David Fensch, 47, is accused of rear-ending Jalean Fajardo's Honda Accord near Farm Road and Durango Drive on Thursday, Feb. 9.

The judge called Fensch, "An absolute danger to the Clark County community."

Fensch, who has four previous DUI's, is facing a felony vehicular manslaughter charge. He is also accused of speeding and driving without a license.

Fajardo's family members were in the courtroom for the hearing. After the hearing, they thanked the community for the outpouring of support they have received.

No bail was set.

The state asked for five days to file a criminal complaint. The judge will reassess bail at that time.

Fensch is currently being held in the Clark County Detention Center.

Rear-end collisions: Exploring the crash that killed 16-year-old Jaelan Farjardo

NHP investigators are working hard to determine just how fast 47-year-old David Fensch was going when he crashed into the back of 16-year-old Jaelan Farjardo's car, but so far, authorities say the impact was powerful enough to send Jaelan's Honda Accord skidding hundreds of feet across the intersection.

NHP traffic homicide detectives said Fensch's vehicle slammed into the back of Jaelan's car which was waiting at a stop sign. The teen was on his way to school.

Report details porn case against Arbor View athletic director

A longtime athletic director at Arbor View High School told a 17-year-old student he could get paid if he was willing to take photos of himself in his underwear, according to the arrest report for Roger Brown.

Brown, 54, was arrested Tuesday. He faces one count of using or permitting a minor to produce porn.

The teen contacted a school official who contacted police.

According to the report, the teen approached Brown saying he heard that Brown sold marijuana on the side. Brown replied, he had many side businesses where the student could make money.

Details emerge in child porn case against high school athletic director

More is being learned about the child pornography allegations against a longtime athletic director at Arbor View High School.

Roger Brown, 54, was arrested Tuesday and is being held without bail. He faces one count of using or permitting a minor to produce porn.

Clark County School District Police officials say the victim is a 17-year-old male student who alerted school officials that Brown texted him asking for photographs.

"What I can say is that the requests for photographs were inappropriate in nature and could be considered requests for pornographic photos," said Captain Ken Young, CCSD Police.

Brown has been with CCSD for 28 years serving as an athletic director and PE instructor among other roles at Arbor View.

He was honored as the Athletic Director of the Year in 2014. He is currently on administrative leave. His first court appearance is scheduled for Friday.

Metro: Neighbors evacuated due to standoff near Durango and El Capitan

Metro Police have evacuated some neighbors and closed streets in a northwest neighborhood due to a standoff with a person believed to be armed.

The incident started around 9:30 a.m. when a family disturbance was reported at a home in the 7800 block of Falling Pines Place near Durango Drive and El Capitan Way.

Elderly man critically injured in crash in northwest Las Vegas

Metro Police investigated a serious crash in the northwest near W. Alexander Road and N. Durango Drive.

It happened around 3:57 p.m. when Metro officer received a call about a crash that happened in the 8700 block of West Gilmore Avenue.

According to police, an elderly man was driving his car, and when he stopped the car, he forgot to put it into the park gear before exiting the vehicle. Metro said the car rolled over the man.

Metro said the main sustained life-threatening injuries. He was taken to University Medical Center in critical condition.

Metro issues warning about parking lot scammers who prey on the elderly

Metro Police says it has investigated several incidents where elderly people were targeted by scammers in parking lots. Police say the incidents occurred in commercial shopping center parking lots in the Northwest part of the valley.

According to officers, suspects approached victims while they were loading items into the trunks of their cars. Metro said while the victims are distracted, the suspects reach into the unlocked vehicle and steal property from the passenger compartment, and in many instances, the victims are unaware of what has happened.

Detectives say suspects have even targeted elderly victims as they backed out of parking spaces.
