Silverstone golf community still in limbo, racking up code violations

More than a year after it closed, the future of a golf course that was once lively is still in limbo.

The grass at the Silverstone Golf has gone from green to brown, and there's a lot of overgrown vegetation.

Ever since the property in the northwest valley closed, it has been sold twice. The owners of the golf course near Buffalo and Grand Teton have done little to maintain the landscape.

Las Vegas City Fire inspectors are concerned with the current conditions. They have to walk through the dry vegetation at the golf course looking for fire hazards.

"That probably didn't use to look like that," said Scott Thompson, fire inspector, City of Las Vegas.

Homeowner: "No."
Thompson: "That's overgrown."

Thompson says he has seen code violations that could potentially put homes in danger... Read More

Pit bull euthanized following baby's death

A pit bull terrier mix that killed a 6-month-old baby girl was euthanized by Clark County Animal Control Tuesday.

Officials with animal control say it hasn't had any previous reports about the dog, but it's standard protocol to euthanize an aminal after it has killed someone.

The attack happened in a Centennial Hills neighborhood Monday near the intersection of N. Fort Apache and W. Centennial Parkway.

The child was identified by the Clark County Coroner's Office as Kamiko Dao Tsuda-Saelee. The coroner said Kamiko died of multiple blunt force injuries to the head.

Investigators say the infant was playing in a walker near the dog when the dog attacked her. According to Metro Police, the child's mother tried to stop the attack, but the dog had already inflicted serious damage.

Desert Shores swans leaving lake following attacks

Residents in a northwest community will have to say goodbye to beloved swans that called the Desert Shores home.

Last week, one of the birds was shot with an arrow and had to be euthanized.

Word is beginning to spread that the swans will soon be gone. Residents are sad but they understand why the birds need a new home.

Spectators take pictures as they walk by while others watch the wildlife from the comfort of their cars. The scenery at the Desert Shores will soon be missing a key component.

"If they have to relocate them, that's the best for the swans, you know," said Geryl Steinseifer, who will miss seeing the swans.

"I mean they're part of the lake," said Mary Eng. "Sometimes I'll bring bread out and stuff and feed them."

The owners of the swans have decided to relocate the birds out of state and out of harms way. Last week, a papa-swan was found with an arrow shot through his hindquarters. The bird did not make it... Read More
