CAUGHT ON CAMERA: Teen saves toddler’s life

ISTANBUL (CBS) — Harrowing security camera video shows a teenager catching a toddler after she fell from an Istanbul building.

Two-year-old Dora Muhammed, a Syrian national, fell from a second-floor open window last Thursday, according to Turkey’s private Demiroren News Agency (DHA.)

She was caught by an Algerian 17-year-old, Feuzi Zabaat, who worked nearby and noticed she was about to fall, said DHA.

DHA also said Dora’s father, Yusuf Muhammed, gave Zabaat a 200 Turkish Lira (35 US Dollars) reward for saving his daughter’s life... Read More

Safety experts warn about the dangers of fireworks

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — The 4th of July holiday is coming up, and many will be out celebrating with fireworks.

Safe-N-Sane fireworks go on sale Friday, June 28 until Thursday, July 4.

The Consumer Product Safety Commission released a demonstration video showcasing how quickly things can go wrong when fireworks aren’t handled properly. New data reveals over 9,000 fireworks-related injuries were treated at emergency rooms in 2018.

Sometimes safe fireworks can also be dangerous. Experts say more than half of injuries in small children are caused by sparklers.

We’re seeing these injuries in children under five. Now children of those age, they explore the environment about them by touch and feel. So even if a nearby adult is the one holding the sparkler, all it takes is that split second for the toddler to reach out towards that shiny, alluring flame, and it’s all over.... Read More

Mom convicted of murder after leaving 3-year-old in hot car to “remove lustful demons”

SACRAMENTO, Calif. (AP) — A woman has been convicted of murder after leaving her 3-year-old daughter in an SUV for 9 1/2 hours during a blazing California summer and saying she wanted to remove “lustful demons” from the girl.

Angela Phakhin was convicted Wednesday of first-degree murder and torture.

Authorities say Phakhin and her fiance repeatedly left her daughter, Maiya, in the car in 2017.

The girl spent 4 1/2 hours there one June day. The next day, she was found dead under a pile of blankets after a 9 1/2-hour stretch.

Sacramento County prosecutors say Phakhin told authorities she and Untwan Smith were trying to remove “lustful demons” from the girl.

Prosecutors say Phakhin was repeatedly warned and advised to take the girl to a cooling shelter.

Officer convicted of sexual misconduct with teens met them on Tinder

RICHMOND HILL, Ga. (AP) — A former Georgia police officer faces at least 10 years in prison for enticing children on a military post to have sex.

News outlets report 25-year-old Jeffrey Allen Allmond Jr. was found guilty of child enticement on Wednesday. He was arrested last August, a year after being hired by the Richmond Hill Police Department.

The Georgia Bureau of Investigation was brought in when Allmond was accused of sexual misconduct involving two girls living at Fort Stewart while their parents serve in the military.

U.S. Attorney Bobby L. Christine says the officer used Tinder and then Snapchat to communicate with girls who were 15 and 16 years old, and took them to his apartment to perform sexual acts.
