Retired Capt. Larry Burns dies at 61, revered by Metro colleagues

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Retired Capt. Larry Burns of the Las Vegas Metropolitan Police Department died Thursday morning at his home, the department reported.

Burns, 61, died from a medical episode, a department news release said.

A 27-year veteran, Burns was widely respected by department members, serving as the Captain of the Bolden Area Command before retiring in 2013.

Twenty One Pilots’ “Bandito Tour” coming to MGM Grand Garden Arena

LAS VEGAS, NV (KLAS) — Twenty One Pilots have announced a new U.S. leg of their global headline “Banditø Tour” due to overwhelming demand.

The new Live Nation-produced tour, which follows this summer’s sold-out arena run, will make a Las Vegas stop at MGM Grand Garden Arena at 7 p.m. on Oct. 30.

Derailment northeast of Las Vegas damages new vehicles in transport

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A train derailment northeast of Las Vegas on Wednesday morning sent railcars tumbling and damaged new vehicles in transport.

The derailment also damaged the road linking Carp and Elgin in rural Nevada, and the Lincoln County Sheriff’s office indicated it wouldn’t reopen until today. Repairs to the road will restrict access for the next 7-10 days... Read More

New Orleans pumps working at 10-15 inches or rain forecast

NEW ORLEANS (AP) — The Latest on a tropical weather system in the Gulf of Mexico (all times local):

11:55 a.m.

The mayor of New Orleans says the city’s water pumps are “working at optimal capacity” as Tropical Storm Barry moves toward the state’s Gulf coast.

But speaking at a Thursday news conference, New Orleans Mayor LaToya Cantrell added that flooding is a threat because slow-moving, heavy rains are expected from the storm.

National Weather Service meteorologist says New Orleans could get 10 to 15 inches of rain Friday, Saturday and Sunday. Some isolated areas could see 20 inches.

Job fair will recruit school bus drivers in Las Vegas

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — A job fair to recruit bus drivers for the Clark County School District will take place Saturday from 8 a.m. til noon.

The fair will be at 4499 S. Arville St. at the Richard C. White Transportation Center, a CCSD news release said.

Applicants can apply on-site, and will have the opportunity to ask questions and talk to current drivers. CCSD provides paid training and assistance in getting the proper license.
