NHL: Golden Knights will play San Jose Sharks on Oct. 2 for 2019-20 home opener

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) –– The National Hockey League announced Friday that the Vegas Golden Knights will face off against the San Jose Sharks for the Knights’ 2019-20 home opener. The game will be played on Wednesday, Oct. 2 at T-Mobile Arena.

The time of the game was not released. That will be announced at a later date. In the meantime, Knights Centerman Cody Eakin had a message for the Sharks to let them know that he was ready to go head-to-head on the ice.

Vegas shooting victims fund widens pool for financial aid

LAS VEGAS (AP) – A program offering financial help to survivors of the Las Vegas Strip mass shooting that killed 58 people in October 2017 is changing hands and widening the pool of people eligible for aid.

The Vegas Strong Resiliency Center says applicants now can qualify for up to four payments totaling $2,000 over a two-year span to cover basic needs like groceries, transportation, moving costs, rent and utilities.

The effort headed by the Legal Aid Center of Southern Nevada in Las Vegas will keep disbursing funds following the end of efforts by the nonprofit Route91Strong .

California-based Route91Strong reports delivering more than $220,000 to help more than 150 survivor family members in the last 20 months.

Hawaii, Mass., Minnesota, Nev. join legal fight against T-Mobile’s $26.5 billion bid for Sprint

LAS VEGAS (AP) — Hawaii, Massachusetts, Minnesota and Nevada are joining the legal fight against T-Mobile’s $26.5 billion bid for Sprint in a case that may reach trial in October.

A lawyer for state attorneys general revealed the additional states at a New York court hearing Friday.

Nine other states and the District of Columbia sued to block the merger this month, saying it will reduce competition and damage consumers.

A lawyer for T-Mobile told a judge Friday that the deal will improve competition by combining two smaller companies, enabling them to compete more effectively against bigger players.

Both sides recommended an Oct. 7 trial date.

U.S. District Judge Victor Marrero did not agree to the date yet, saying any trial date will depend in part on whether the Justice Department joins the states... Read More

NDOT crews started work there Wednesday night and will be at it each night from 8pm until 5 each following morning until a week from today. You won’t be able to get from westbound Lake Mead Parkway onto the westbound 215. You’ll have to go either north or south on the 95/515. They’re also taking away the ramp from northbound I-11 to the westbound 215. While many of us still refer to it as the 95/515 that stretch of road south of the 215 is now officially known as I-11.

More films being produced in Nevada

LAS VEGAS (KLAS) — Over the years, a number of major movies have chosen Las Vegas as their story line. Hundreds of productions film in Nevada almost every year.

The state offers a 15% to 25% tax credit to boost film, television, and other productions in Las Vegas. According to the Nevada Film Office, they’re constantly working with over 500 productions each year.

Many jobs are created, vendors are used, and locations are highlighted.

“The production industry right now is the most competitive it’s ever been. States and countries around the world, they’re all vying for the attention of these productions, trying to drive the productions to their areas. So the state of Nevada offers very competitive incentives to do that.”
